Comfrey (Symphytum officinale) has a long history of wound healing; historically the large leaves were mashed & used as a field poultice in times of war. It was known for its' ability to heal traumatized tissues, large wounds & even broken bones. Hence, its past name is "Bone-knit".
Comfrey supports tissue healing through Allantoin, a substance that stimulates cell production and thus helps wound healing. The anti-inflammatory action may provide pain relief, reduce swelling & resolve bruising in tissues.
Extracting the medicinal properties of Comfrey through infusion into oils for many weeks gives us a unique product to use for massaging into bruised or strained tissues. It is for external use & only on intact skin.
